Whoops, there’s like a month gap in my last post. Turns out, I went to NYC, Seattle and back, and sort of forgot about everything. Anyway, keeping things work related, here are some assorted shots of the Rifflandia Festival magazine this year. If you can find a copy, it’s a beast. 120 pages, all direction and design handled by yours truly. Good times.

About a month or two ago, I was asked to work on some branding / identity work for a small store on the Gulf Islands of British Columbia called Wren. The particular island on which this store was located was, until now, without a small, high fashion boutique.
The natural beauty of the west coast plays well with the concept of a small clothing boutique, and the folks at Wren wanted to take the store in a very minimal, but natural direction. I designed the logo and came up with concepts for the remainder of the roll out, bags, letterheads, business cards, lookbooks, etc.

Keeping in the spirit of “things I made that won’t see the printed light of day” motif. Here is the original cover I designed for the Rifflandia Festival magazine. Admittedly, it was a little bit self-indulgent and left-field for the client, but I really enjoyed making it and felt that with the wide variety of music and art that goes along with the festival, that we could get away with it. Anyway, the client chose a simpler version that displayed the branding in a clear and concise way, so, everyone is happy.

Thanks to the folks at Lovely Package for posting my beer label for the Rifflandia Festival custom pilsner. Big time awesome.

For those of you in Victoria, you’ll all know about the Rifflandia Festival. Well, this year I was Creative Director for the festival, in charge of the branding / magazine / etc. But unlike last year, this year, master-phillips-brewery-label-maker Shawn O’Keefe (aka Trust36) made the custom “Rifflandabrau” beer label. I figured since it won’t the real light of day this time, I’d post my version here.

Headers

From here on out, I’ll be changing the header on the blog about once a week. Sometimes it’ll be funny, sometimes it will be annoying, sometimes it will be ugly, sometimes it will be pretty. Deal with it.
